Deadly Bird Flu Returns to the Midwest

The deadly bird flu has returned to the Midwest sooner than expected.

Officials said the disease has been detected in a herd in western Minnesota and Indiana.

The disease was detected in the past week after a farm in Meeker County reported an increase in mortality.

The board later reported that a second swarm in the county tested positive on Tuesday evening.

Several detections have occurred in western states in July and August, including California, Washington and Utah.

Dr Shauna Voss said – We are preparing for a resurgence of avian influenza to be tackled this spring.

According to the US Department of Agriculture nationwide, 414 herds have been affected in 39 states since February.

Deadly bird flu has hit 81 Minnesota flocks this year.
